Hanoi – Mai Chau – Ninh Binh 3-Day Tour

Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau – 145km – 3.5h

Excursion to Muong village, Lac – Na Phon – Poong Com villages

  • 8:00am: The tour guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Mai Chau. Visitors can stop by Muong village on the way to Mai Chau town and zoom in from Thung Khe Pass to view the entire valley.

Mai Chau Valley is 145 kilometers from the city of Hanoi. It’s a beautiful destination with a harmonious landscape, lush mountains, terraced fields, and white Thai ethnic communities.

  • After arriving in Mai Chau, you check-in to rest and have lunch. In the afternoon, trek to the rice fields or ride a 5km bike (optional). Learn about the daily lives of the locals in Lac village, Na Phon, and Poong Com, as well as the daily activities of the weavers and farmers who work in the rice fields. In the late afternoon, return to your lodging.

Day 2: Mai Chau – Ninh Binh – 150km – 3.5h

Peaceful & authentic village of Mai Hich, leisurely walking, transfer to Ninh Binh

  • Have breakfast in the serene countryside before heading to Mai Hich. Coming here, visitors can explore this area by taking a trek or a bike ride along the trails and concrete roads (optional). The picturesque scenery, which is created by villages, rice fields, mountains, and streams, will undoutedly capture your attention.
  • In addition, don’t miss the opportunity to socialize with the warm locals who are always willing to invite you into their homes for a cup of tea.
  • Return to Mai Chau for lunch, then depart for Ninh Binh. Stop along the road to meet locals and take photos. In the late afternoon, arrive in Ninh Binh, then check in to rest.

Day 3: Ninh Binh – Hanoi – 100km – 2h

Boat trip in Tam Coc, hiking to Bich Dong pagoda, Mua Cave viewpoint & Hoa Lu ancient capital

  • After breakfast, tourists move to visit Tam Coc, regarded as “Halong Bay on Land.” At the boat pier, you will take a private boat for 1.5 hours along the Ngo Dong River to pass through three caves and take in the breathtaking scenery of rice fields and majestic limestone mountains.
  • Continue to Bich Dong, a typical Red River Delta rural pagoda constructed in the 15th century. When you get there, let’s cross a stone bridge to get to Ha Pagoda (Lower pagoda).
  • Then, you can take more than 100 steps to get to Chua Trung (Middle pagoda), a cave pagoda with unique clay statues and continue to ascend to visit Upper Pagoda (Thuong Pagoda). In addition to learning about Buddhism, you may have the chance to take in the breathtaking views of the countryside here.
  • Enjoy some local specialty at Tam Coc before moving to Hang Mua (Mua Cave)
  • Mua Cave is more than just a normal cave, it is a tourism complex with a number of picturesque landscapes, resorts, and entertainment that has been labeled a miniature version of “the Great Wall of China.” Visitors will feel delighted after successfully conquering roughly 500 stone steps, standing atop Mua mountain, and taking in the view of Ninh Binh.
  • In addition, you will be able to appreciate the entire splendor of the golden rice fields of the Tam Coc – Bich Dong tourist area from the summit of Ngoa Long.
  • Following your exploration in Mua Cave, you move to Hoa Lu, the former capital of Vietnam from the 10th to the 11th centuries. The citadel is surrounded by limestone mountains and rivers, which offer natural defense and a stunning landscape.
  • Once you get to Hoa Lu, you can go to the temples of King Dinh Tien Hoang of the Dinh Dynasty (968-80) and King Le Dai Hanh of the Le Dynasty (980-1009). These two historical figures played a significant role in the struggle for Vietnam’s independence from China after a millennium of Chinese domination. Both temples were constructed in the 17th century, demonstrating the deep respect for the King’s contributions.
  • Along with activities like visiting Bich Dong Pagoda or climbing to the top of Mua Cave, you can choose to cycle through rice fields and rustic, tranquil Northern-featured villages.
  • After visiting well-known destinations here, you return to Hanoi for rest. End the 3-Day Tour.
